Here, we are going to talk about the biggest countries in the world on the basis of their size. These largest countries in the world are home to a variety of climate, geography and wildlife. These countries contain coastline, mountains, valleys, tundra, deserts and rainforest that are awe-inspiring.

  1. Russia

Russia covers 17.1 million square Km and this makes it the largest country of the world by area. You would be surprised to know that even if 7 million square km is cut from Russia’s land, it is still going to be the largest country of the world. It borders 14 different countries.

The weather here is tropical but summers in Southern Russia are humid.  The largest terrestrial biome, called Taiga extends from eastern Canada to northern Russia. The country is not just home to the largest land but it has massive oil reserves hidden in the tundra and forest.  Most of the oil is untapped because oil extracting is difficult and expensive.

Yes, Canada is second in the list of largest countries by area. It measures 9.984 million square km. It is the largest country in the Western Hemisphere. Its coastline extends to 202,080 km making it one of the largest shorelines on Earth. The frozen tundra in the country extends into the Arctic Circle. The Rocky Mountains run from the north to south. Grains and canola are grown in the prairies.

America is larger than China but a bit smaller than its neighbor Canada. It covers a land of 9.63 million square km. On the south lies the Mexico border and on the north, there is Canada. Diverse wildlife and geography is found all over America.

The nation is split is into 3 distinct pieces. At the western part of the Rocky Mountains, all the pacific states have the same temperature year round. The large plains stretching all the way from Canada to Mexico are extremely fertile. Mississippi located at the East is the economic and industrial hub of the country.

It occupies 9.6 million square km area and it shares its border with 14 different countries that includes Russia at its North. The people as well as climate in China vary dramatically. In the North, the temperature drops to subarctic level whereas in the South, the temperature reaches topical level. The country is home to 56 ethnic groups. A lot of people in China are doctors and their number is higher than Qatar.

Brazil occupies 8.51 million square km land. Along with being South America’s largest country, it is home to Amazon, the largest rainforest in the world.  There is human civilization in the small tribes of Amazon that has literally no connection with the outside world. Some scientist and researchers believe there are tribes in the Amazon that are not discovered yet. At the East of Brazil lies the largest Atlantic coastline stretching to 8000 km.

It covers 7.69 million square km land and it is the largest country in Oceania. The country is so large that it does not qualify as an island. Majority of the population lies in Sydney and Perth and other coastal cities. Why? Because the outback is hot and dry. Although the climate and geography here is extreme but the wildlife is spectacular.

It is also one of the largest countries by size. When it comes to population, India is the second largest in the world. The country has a territory of 3.29 million square km (If the disputed area of Kashmir is excluded). Whether it is Himalayan Mountains or the tropical shores in the Southern-Peninsula, the geography of India is wide and unique.

It is the 32rd most populous country in the world. It is also known as the largest Spanish-speaking nation. The territory of Argentina stretches to 2.78 million square km. The climate and geography of the country are diverse. The temperature in the North is tropical whereas in the South, it is freezing.  At the West of Southern Andes lies Patagonia reaching all the way to the Atlantic Ocean in the East. It is one of the most dangerous places of all. At the South of Argentina likes Cape Horn which is the stormiest location on earth.

It is the largest landlocked country in the world. The area spans 2.72 million square km. Majority of the area is highland and plains. The temperature is mostly cold and dry throughout the year and it keeps on changing.

Algeria occupies 2.38 million square km area. It lies in Northern Africa and its Mediterranean coastline is 998 km long. About 90% of the land of the country is desert. The famous Tell Atlas Mountain range lies at the Northern border of the country. The interior lies 100 meters above sea level. The country also contains a portion of the Sahara desert.

Landmass surely tells about the size of each country but it is not the best way of measuring the strength. The right way is to access the country by its GDP or the monetary value it processes and produces.
